 Coplan Estates are planning a £30m investment in seeking to redevelop an existing car park in the heart of Barking town centre, on Wakering Road, for a landmark 21 storey hotel.
The proposed development will provide a prominent gateway building adjacent to Barking Station. The hotel will target the 3 star sector, and will deliver 187 bedrooms, meeting/conferencing facilities, gym, restaurant and a landscaped podium roof garden.
The scheme is an important component in the ongoing transformation of the town and particularly around the station area, where upgrading works are planned in the near future. Coplan owns the adjoining Trocoll House in which they run a successful serviced office business. The scheme will also potentially provide additional space to expand the business centre and direct connectivity to reinforce use of the hotel facilities.

Mixed-use developer Coplan Estates and contractor Denne, part of the Leadbitter Group, have been selected as preferred developer for a £50m regeneration scheme in Herne Bay in Kent. Initial proposals include a 60,000 sq ft food store, additional shops and A3 uses, a medical centre and 75 flats.
Chairman of the Herne Bay Regeneration Working Group, cllr Peter Lee, said: "We are looking forward to working with Coplan and Denne and are sure their plans will be to the long-term benefit of Herne Bay."
The proposals form part of the wider Herne Bay Area Action Plan, which is part of the Local Development Framework.
This has recently been fully supported by an independent planning inspector in his inquiry report.

Work has begun on Phase One of the Church Lane Neighbourhood Regeneration in Bedford Work is beginning on Phase One of the Church Lane Neighbourhood Centre Regeneration. The new Mayor, Dave Hodgson, will be launching the development at 11.30am on Monday 23rd November. The developer, Coplan Estates, was appointment by Bedford Borough Council in August 2006 to explore and deliver a mixed use project for Church Lane. This first £2.5m phase will include a 17,000 sq ft Aldi supermarket together with a new car park – both these elements were high up on the wish list following two earlier public consultation exercises. “This first phase of the development will deliver a high quality supermarket which incorporates excellent design alongside many modern sustainable build features. In addition the new Aldi store will generate between 15-20 much needed local employment opportunities”, explains Trevor Roff, Bedford Borough Council’s Head of Economic Development & Regeneration. Mayor Dave Hodgson said: “I am delighted that the regeneration of the Church Lane shopping area is getting underway.
